Class Descriptions
We have a full schedule of both in-person and online classes via Zoom. Preregistration required for all classes.
Hatha Yoga - uses postures (asanas) and stretches in combination with the breath to develop flexibility and relaxation. There are many styles of Hatha Yoga. Some use a specific series of postures; others use a flow of movements, while some may use props such as blocks or belts to assist a posture or maximize a stretch. All styles of Hatha Yoga, however, encourage proper alignment of the body and bring balance, strength, and calmness to the practitioner. Our Hatha Yoga classes are based on the classic and ancient practices with attention to alignment and the deeper layers of yoga.
Vinyasa - emphasizes a continuous flow of movement using sun salutations, dynamic breathing and long holdings. Each part of the body (inside and out) is explored and worked in a deep and mindful way. This practice builds strength, tones and detoxifies. Vinyasa is a fun and creative practice requiring focus and dedication. This class moves at a quick pace; therefore, some Yoga experience is helpful prior to starting this class.
Gentle - Slower paced class with focus on breathing, relaxation and gentle stretching. Beginners welcome.
Chair/Accessible Yoga - A class designed around the creative use of a chair as a supportive prop. This class is perfect for anyone who would like a little extra support in balancing poses and or getting up and down off the floor. Perfect for students of all ages who may be recovering from injury, who are pregnant or coming back to their practice, or who may have some mobility challenges, or who are stuck at their desks all day. All bodies welcome!
Note: this class will include standing and balancing postures with the assist of a chair, and may include time on the mat.
Restorative Yoga - Restorative yoga uses long-held, supported resting poses to create the conditions for us to cultivate the skill of conscious relaxation and most importantly to release unnecessary habitual tension in the body and mind.
Yin Yoga - This class is designed to passively lengthen muscles in a series of mainly floor poses that will be held for 1-5 minutes. During the “hold” you will be guided into softening gently into the pose using your breath and mindful observation of thoughts. There will be carefully-guided gentle movements in the transition between each pose.
iRest® Yoga Nidra - A yoga nidra class using the method developed by Dr. Richard Miller. This class is quiet and introspective, with plenty of time to breathe, feel, and welcome the pause between stimulus and response. Class also includes gentle movement, breathing exercises and meditation to help develop our connection to our inner knowing that is always present. Beginners welcome.
Prenatal Yoga - A class designed to support expecting students through all stages of pregnancy. Props are used for support, and all poses and cues are targeted for a pregnant person's needs and specific considerations. There is a strong element of community building and birth education included, both before and during the movement portion of class. You'll build endurance, learn techniques for coping with labor, and end with deep relaxation. This class is for all levels and all trimesters.
Morning Meditation (mini-iRest® Yoga Nidra) - Guided meditation with focus on the breath and body sensation. No experience needed. Mondays and Fridays 9-9:30 am. FREE! (Currently offered online only.)
Pranayama - Pranayama, the yoga breathing practices, are one of the eight limbs of yoga—as important, although not as often practiced, as the physical postures. They are both a preparation for meditation and a meditation on the breath itself, a physically purifying practice and an emotionally sustaining one. This drop-in class teaches pranayama techniques in ways that are accessible to beginners and useful to more advanced practitioners.
