300-Hour Professional Program
starts October 2012
Professional Weekend
Workshop Series
13 Weekends of in-depth
in-class learning
Over 13 weekends you will
become proficient in a comprehensive curriculum that
includes asana practice, meditation, philosophy, pranayama,
injury management, business savvy, and more -- including, of
course, all the nuts and bolts and fine craftsmanship of
teaching. You'll develop confidence and refine your
sequencing skills, verbal cues, observation, and
hands-on-adjustments. You'll learn how to structure classes for different seasons
and circumstances, and how to create a supportive practice
for people with chronic illness or with injury. You'll be
introduced to methods of teaching for beginning students,
for kids and elderly populations. And you'll find your own
voice and learn to infuse your teaching with the
philosophies and insights that inspire you. This curriculum spans the scope of knowledge needed by a
yoga teacher -- detailed guidance for a safe and skilled
instructor, subtle practices for refined sensitivity and
vitality, practical information for a business professional,
and spiritual exploration and personal inquiry for a human
being seeking to move more consciously through life.

Apprenticeship
Through the apprenticeship program, you will benefit from
working more closely with a senior teacher, receiving personal
attention and support. In this component of the course,
you continue to cultivate your teaching skills by
applying them practically, in the classroom. As assistants in
classes, trainees hone their ability to see bodies and give
hands-on adjustments. In addition, you have the opportunity to
observe a senior teacher instructing, sequencing, adjusting and
inspiring their students, and through this process to imprint
these crucial elements of superlative teaching. Twice monthly
mentor meetings will reinforce this learning process and serve
as a forum to address questions and issues related to all things
yoga. In this way, you are able to build on your initial
training, integrate new information, and develop your own style
and voice through a consistent, one-on-one relationship and
on-going dialogue with your mentor.
Time and location vary by mentor.
Apprenticeship requirements
• Assisting in one class per week
• Take two classes per week with a Yoga Works Trainer
• Two meetings per month with mentor teacher
Practice Teach
A strong focus is placed on
refining your skills in the classroom. As yoga teachers, we are
usually alone in the classroom, with little opportunity for
feedback, mentoring or oversight. However, these are some of the
best ways we can improve our teaching. In this training, you
will have ample opportunity to be observed in your teaching and
receive constructive feedback from both your peers and your
instructors. Even more important, you will be able to integrate
the comments you receive through practice and repetition. And
best of all -- you'll have the space to try new things, make
mistakes, and polish some rough edges, so that you can actually
grow as a teacher and hone the new techniques you are learning
before bringing them to your students.
Pranayama & Philosophy
Enrich your knowledge of and connection to the philosophical
pillars
of yoga and the subtle practices of pranayama. And learn how to
weave this knowledge into your classes in a way that is
accessible
and powerful for your students.
