Svadhyaya

Sometimes in our life we need to spend time cultivating peace and stillness. The degree to which our lives are busy and full is the degree to which we need to supplement our reservoirs of serenity.

Svadhyaya, the fourth Niyama from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, is the practice of self-observation, or rather, a sense of reconnecting to the Self. It could also mean meditation or the contemplation of sacred texts. All learning or reflection, that helps you to deepen the connection with yourself, and to dissolve the illusion of any separateness we may feel with the world, is Svadhyaya.

This practice will be quiet and introspective, with plenty of time to breathe, feel, and welcome the pause between stimulus and response. Learning how to act instead of react, learning to listen to the inner voice.

We will practice BodySensing in its various forms: movement, breathing exercises and meditation to help develop our connection to our inner knowing that is always present.

Other practices we may use to help us deepen this connection with ourselves will be; sound, poetry and texts such as the Yoga Sutras as well as the formal practice of Yoga Nidra.

All levels of experience are welcome. Bring your open mind and a spirit of exploration.
