Jenn Abel
Jenn Abel considers
herself a part-time yoga instructor and lifelong yoga
student. In her classes, she strives to create a safe space
for fellow students searching for a holistic approach to
health and wellness. Jenn's classes explore the potential in
each pose for both strengthening effort (sthira) and mindful
ease (sukha). She is particularly interested in yoga as an
effective method of cross-training for athletes, and as a
powerful way to stay centered and grounded in our daily
lives. She’s also a big fan of yoga props, and believes it
is important to bring a sense of humor along with your mat
to class!
Jenn first encountered yoga when her mother forcibly dragged
her to a class at age 18. That day, she was hooked, and soon
found her life transformed by yoga’s ability to both heal
and empower. She is certified by The Yoga Tree's own
YogaWorks 200-hr training, as well as by Street Yoga of
Portland, OR. She also contributed the text for an
illustrated book entitled
Metamorphosis that explores the transformational power
of the yogic asanas, or poses.
On her upper back, Jenn has a tattoo of Downward Facing Dog
(Adho Mukha Svanasana). This is to constantly remind her
that yoga is, above all things, a journey of self-discovery.
When she first began to practice yoga, Downward Facing Dog
was extremely difficult, and she found herself struggling
against her own body, frustrated whenever a teacher told her
to "rest" in that pose. Yet overtime, Jenn has grown to feel
at home in Downward Facing Dog, returning to this asana
again and again as a place to soften and reconnect to her
breath. Jenn weaves this idea of self-discovery into each
class, asking students to recall their inherent potential to
explore, expand and release into our deepest Self.

Unchatter your quiet mind. Unfreeze your fiery heart." ~Celeste
